Moto Z2 Force rumoured to get smaller battery, dual camera setup

This isn’t the first time rumours about the follow-up to the Moto Z Force. This time, we get more details from a VentureBeat report. The Moto Z2 Force will reportedly get a dual camera setup with two 12-megapixel modules and an unchanged 5-megapixel front camera. The US version of the device will reportedly have less RAM at 4GB compared to the 6GB coming to other areas. The Chinese version will supposedly get 128GB of storage, while the rest of the world gets 64GB. Both versions have microSD expansion of up to 2TB, though. And with the model supposedly thinner than before, it’ll have a smaller battery, too. Rumour has it’ll be 22 percent smaller than what is on the Z Force (2,730mAh vs. 3,500mAh).

The phone is said to have no ingress protection rating but will have a water-repellent nano-coating. It’ll run Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box but will be upgradeable to Android O. The Moto Z2 Force is going to come in Super Black, Fine Gold, and Lunar Grey, the grey one will be a T-Mobile USA exclusive, though. The Lenovo subsidiary is expected to debut the new device on July 25th. Of course, at the moment these information are rumours and need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Nokia 8 might be coming out sooner than we think

Yesterday we found out that HMD Global, the brand that makes Nokia-branded devices, lost its CEO Arto Nummela and he seems to have left at a critical time. It has been rumoured for a while now that Nokia is set to reveal a new device called the Nokia 8. And now we kind of see what it might look like. Nokia’s Chinese website put up a promotional image of the unannounced device. GSMArena is speculating that we might see the device by today, based on the date seen in the lock screen. It has the same blue color back and black front seen in previously leaked renders.

Rumoured specs of the device include a 5.3-inch QHD touchscreen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB or 6GB RAM, and Android 7.1.1 Nougat. It’ll have a dual rear camera setup equipped with 13-megapixel Zeiss-branded lenses. Price for the unlocked unit is tipped to be around €550-600 (around CA$800-$870).

HMD Global, maker of Nokia devices, loses its CEO

The Nokia 3310 gets reimagined under HMD Global

Ahead of the rumoured release of a new Nokia device (the Nokia 8), HMD Global, the company who makes Nokia-branded phones, just lost its CEO in a rather abrupt exit. According to HMD, the parting with former CEO Arto Nummela is based on a “mutual agreement.” Not much else was said except it comes at a weird time when HMD has started to build up momentum for the new Nokia devices. Nummela will be temporarily replaced by current President and founder Florian Seiche while the company looks for a new CEO.

Samsung’s Bixby voice assistant comes to the US

While there’s still no sign of Bixby anywhere here yet, Samsung just launched its voice assistant in the US, a few months after it was introduced alongside the debut of the Galaxy S8 and S8+. It was released in South Korea in May and it looks like it’s finally ready to take on the English-speaking market in the US. Hopefully it makes its way here soon, too. With Samsung adamantly not letting users remap the Bixby buttons on the S8 devices, it would be better if the physical Bixby button actually served a purpose.
