YouTube is getting rid of its built-in video editor & photo slideshows

You may or may not know that YouTube has a built-in video editor in its app. We’re banking on you not knowing this information as the streaming service cites this as a reason why they’re getting rid of it. YouTube announced that the built-in video editor and their photo slideshow features are both going away by September 20th. What will stay is the “Enhancements” feature that lets you do things like trim videos, add subtitles, cards, and filters, among other things.

LG rumoured to be sole battery supplier for ‘iPhone 9’

Sure we’re still waiting for the ‘iPhone 8’ to come out but the rumour mill doesn’t stop. And this time we’re talking about the battery supplier of the next iPhone, which we shall just call iPhone 9 for continuity. A new report by Korea Economic Daily cites an unnamed source that says Apple has picked LG Chem as its exclusive battery supplier for the iPhone 9, which is expected to come out in the second half of 2018. LG Chem has supposedly invested “hundreds of billions” of won to have dedicated battery manufacturing facilities that’ll be up and running for full-scale product early next year.

The report claims the iPhone 9 will have a “bent” battery module or one that’s extended to one side at the bottom and form an “L” shape. This type of battery doesn’t just maximize space but is also meant to improve charging speeds and battery life. Apple has been using the standard rectangular “jelly roll” lithium-ion batteries for its iPhones since the beginning. Again these are all just rumours and it’s definitely a long way away before we hear anything official.

Apple Clips gets new Disney- and Pixar-inspired effects

Here’s another fruit from Apple’s partnership with Disney. The company’s video creation app for iOS, Clips, is bringing tons of graphic overlays and posters from some of your favorite Disney and Pixar characters. Version 1.1 of the app now has animated overlays of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Daisy Duck as well as your favorite Toy Story and Inside Out characters like Woody and Jessie, Joy, Fear, etc. Aside from the overlays, there are new Disney-designed posters that can work as title cards for your stories.

Aside from these, there are 10 new Apple-designed overlays and 12 posters with “dramatic graphics, beautifully rendered backgrounds, and customizable animated text.” Apple says they’ve also included some usability improvements to make it that much easier to turn video clips and photos into something fun.
