Apple discontinues 27-inch iMac

It's been around for over 12 years, but now the 27-inch iMac is no more. Apple has removed the listing from its Mac category, leaving the 24-inch Apple Silicon-based iMac on sale. The company launched its new Mac Studio and Studio Display the other day, which it is positioning to replace that iMac instead of a rumoured new large-sized iMac. This just-discontinued model running on Intel's processor first debuted in August 2020, and it had the nano-texture anti-glare display option that the new Studio Display gets.

The iMac was first introduced in 1998, and the 27-inch model first came out in 2009. And as Apple Insider pointed out, it was the first post-Steve Jobs return product. It transitioned to the Intel processor in 2006 until it moved to the ARM-based Apple Silicon architecture in 2021. 

iPad Air 2022's incremental update adds 5G support, M1 chip

The new iPad Air is the last Apple product refreshed and announced at its recent "Peek Performance" event. This new iPad Air has come out a year and a half since its predecessor. It still features that iPad Pro-like look, but it gets a spec boost with an M1 processor, 5G support, and faster data transfer speeds (up to 10Gbps) via its USB-C port.

With the M1 chip, its 8-core CPU is expected to be 60 percent faster than last generation's A14 Bionic processor, and its 8-core GPU is expected to be two times faster. Storage on this tablet starts at 64GB and maxes out at 256GB.

Apple's iPhone SE 2022 gets 5G, A15 chip

As we've heard from countless rumours, the Apple iPhone SE is making a comeback. It's an incremental update from its predecessor, but it still offers some pretty good specs for what's considered the most affordable iPhone. It now runs on the Apple A15 Bionic processor, which powers the latest iPhone 13 smartphones. It brings improved performance and battery life, which is needed especially since the SE now supports 5G.

The extended battery life might also be attributed to a larger battery. It promises up to 15 hours of video playback, 10 hours of streaming video playback, and 50 hours of audio playback. The iPhone SE supports Qi wireless charging, but it doesn't have MagSafe support.

Apple's new Studio Display is its first prosumer monitor in years

It's been a while since Apple introduced a monitor for its users. The Pro Display XDR launched in 2019 was geared more towards creative professionals (at least those who could afford its hefty price tag). It has finally debuted one built for its consumers at a slightly less expensive price tag. The new Apple Studio Display is still obviously pricey at $1,999 (for its most basic configuration), but you might consider it a steal, given the Pro Display XDR's base $6,299 price. 

What's so special about the new Studio Display? It is built to work with Apple's Mac lineup, including the latest Mac Studio desktop. It comes with a 27-inch 5K display encased in an aluminum enclosure. The screen is similar to the now-discontinued 27-inch iMac but gets a slightly brighter display that reaches up to 600 nits (the iMac only got up to 500 nits). It supports P3 wide colour and works with macOS's TrueTone feature. Unfortunately, you're stuck with the standard 60Hz refresh rate on this monitor.
