If you've ever thought of working out in virtual reality, Alo Moves introduces a version of its app for the Meta Quest 3. Alo Moves XR is the first wellness app on Meta's platform to feature volumetric 3D-capture classes. This technique allows you to see the class from all angles. It lets you "interact" with your 3D instructors, "reposition" them and view every angle for a complete 360-degree perspective.
Alo Moves XR launches with 32 classes across yoga, pilates, and mindfulness categories. Popular instructors like yoga teacher Ashley Galvin and pilates specialist Bianca Wise are on the platform. You can expect a structured release schedule of four to five new mixed-reality yoga and pilates classes added monthly alongside weekly meditation and sound bath sessions.
Later this year, Alo Moves plans to introduce new instructors and more offerings, including 20+ minute yoga sessions, yoga fundamentals, quick toning/sculpting classes, breathwork, evening reset stretching, etc.
You can select picturesque backgrounds for your workouts, like Spain, Norway, and Thailand. And, of course, it maps your room and the objects around you to ensure you don't bump into anything. The app also offers class history tracking, milestone badges, and post-class feedback.
The company promises to offer an experience "that feels as close to in-person as possible." Of course, we can't say how it'll feel to have a headset strapped to your face while you work out.
The Alo Moves XR app comes with a US$69 per year subscription (around CA$95), or you can get it for US$10 a month (~CA$14). Get the Alo Moves x Meta Quest bundle for the subscription to cost you only US$49 (~CA$68) per year. And if you have an existing Alo Moves membership, you can upgrade to just US$20 (~CA$28) annually. Before signing up, you get a free seven-day trial.
