Apple's iPad Pro tipped to get a major revamp

Apple's iPad Pro lineup is set for its biggest redesign since 2018, with all-new OLED displays replacing the current LCD technology. The company has reportedly placed an initial order of 8.5 million panels from South Korean suppliers, with Samsung Display handling the roughly 11-inch models and LG Display tackling the larger 13-inch versions. This split suggests Apple anticipates the larger iPad Pro to be slightly more popular, with LG producing 4.5 million panels compared to Samsung's 4 million for 2024.

Industry sources claim this division of labor reflects both Apple's evolving demand for OLED iPads and the ongoing challenges suppliers face in meeting Apple's exacting standards for these new panels. Apple reportedly seeks "unrivaled" display quality alongside a thinner and lighter design. Leaked schematics hint at a significant reduction in thickness, particularly for the larger model.

However, the initial order quantity might fluctuate based on production yield and evolving demand forecasts. Apple's latest projections reportedly show a decrease from the 10 million units originally anticipated for 2024. Beyond the display upgrade, the new iPad Pro is expected to boast faster M3 chips built on a 3-nanometer process. MagSafe charging is also a possibility, alongside a new Magic Keyboard and an improved Apple Pencil.
