OpenAI is reportedly making a screenless speaker that can move

OpenAI's foray into the hardware space involves a moving speaker, at least according to a new Bloomberg report. Citing sources with knowledge of the company's plans, the news outlet said the device currently under development is intended to be screen-free but works as a "humanlike AI companion that lives in the home." And the news outlet noted that the device is described as having "mechanical elements that can move on their own," and the company views it as a "physical manifestation of OpenAI's ChatGPT."

The sources told Bloomberg the device is intended to have a "personality" and can proactively learn about the user over time to offer a more personalized experience. Of course, it would have access to the user's digital life, including email and the like, to make this happen.

Bloomberg noted that the device "veers significantly from anything Apple has on the market today" and is "unlikely that it violates trade secrets" belonging to Apple. Apple recently filed a lawsuit against the AI company, alleging OpenAI stole its trade secrets. OpenAI has denied wrongdoing.
