Samsung introduced a new display architecture for its upcoming Galaxy foldable smartphones, using titanium components to address long-standing issues with screen durability and crease visibility. The new system, called "Flex Titanium," integrates a titanium-alloy film and a titanium plate directly beneath the OLED panel. By replacing traditional polymer layers with metal alloys, the design is not just meant to offer sturdier internal support but also to ensure the device's overall thickness is maintained.
The upper titanium-alloy film is rolled to roughly one-third the thickness of a human hair to maintain a slim profile. Yet, it reportedly offers 20 times the mechanical stiffness of the polymer film. Underneath it, a thicker titanium plate features micro-patterned holes to allow the metal to bend repeatedly during folding while eliminating internal air gaps. According to the company, the new display tech will officially debut at its next Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22.
