New ‘Aladdin’ trailer introduces Will Smith’s Genie

During the 2019 Grammys, Disney fans and everyone else were finally given a peak at something we’ve been wondering about: Will Smith’s take on the Genie. The one-minute trailer shows Mena Massoud’s Aladdin being introduced to the Genie. A trailer for the film was released in October last year, but this is the first time we get to see Smith’s Genie in action. When asked about the difference between his take on the character versus the late Robin Williams’ original take, Smith said, “There’s a little bit less mimicking—there’s a James Brown piece that we do but a little bit less mimicking. The thing that will be the major addition from me playing the Genie is the hip-hop base. I think that’ll be fun for people. I think it’ll stand out as unique even in the Disney world. There hasn’t been a lot of that hip-hop flavor in Disney history!”

Aladdin will be coming to theatres on May 24, 2019. It’s directed by Guy Ritchie. Massoud and Smith are joined by Naomi Scott, who will play Jasmine.

Google makes right-clicking on Gmail a lot more useful

Before when you tried to access the right-click menu of Gmail, it offered three paltry options: archive, mark as unread, or delete. But that option is about to get a bit more useful. Google is overhauling the menu and adding a lot more options like being able to select reply, forward, label, move, mute, and snooze emails. It’s coming first to G Suite users with Rapid Release domains. And then on February 22^nd, it’ll be hitting Scheduled Release customers. Google hasn’t announced if or when Gmail free accounts will be getting the feature. But we’re pretty confident it will land in the future. We’ll keep you posted for any updates.

Flickr extends deletion deadline for over-the-limit free accounts to March 12th

After rival site SmugMug acquired Flickr from Yahoo, some big changes came to the service. One of them that impacted free users is a new membership model. Users had to pay $50 for Pro membership or they would be limited to 1,000 images per account. Those who opted to keep their free accounts would have the images over 1,000 be deleted (starting with the older photos). Flickr initially gave a deadline of February 5^th. But the company just announced it is extending the deadline to March 12^th.

If you took advantage of the 1TB free storage, that meant a lot of photos. Users complained about the roadblocks they faced trying to download their archives—including only being able to download 500 images at a time as well as slow download speeds.

Apple AirPower rumoured to get Spring 2019 release

Aside from hearing more about the AirPods, a new report claims that the now mythical AirPower charging mat is finally arriving sometime in the Spring. It'll supposedly launch alongside the AirPod 2's wireless charging case, which will reportedly carry less charge than the non-wireless one. The charging mat is expected to be a bit thicker than what's initially expected, and this is probably due to the coils used for charging. The AirPower will reportedly get additional features that will debut when iOS 13 comes.
