Acer is the latest tech company to take a stab at creating a smart ring. And it's obvious who it's taken inspiration from, a.k.a. the Samsung Galaxy Ring. The Acer FreeSense Smart Ring comes in a titanium alloy casing with sizes ranging from US size 7 to 13 and weighing around 2 to 3 grams.
Friday, September 6, 2024 at 6:17AM Acer showed off a new concept Predator laptop at IFA 2024 that hides a controller in the device. The Project DualPlay Gaming Laptop's touchpad doubles as a built-in detachable wireless controller. You just need to press the release button to remove the controller from its electromagnetic lock. When you pull the controller from the laptop, a pair of high-fidelity, five-watt speakers pop out of the sides to make the gaming experience more immersive.
Project DualPlay supports a second player. You can separate the joysticks from the controller to get a Nintendo Switch-like accessory. Acer specifically calls out Street Fighter 6 as a game you can play well on this machine alongside first-person shooters, multiplayer online battles, sports, or other fighting games. But this mode would only make sense if the game you're playing supports split screen.

Acer has a couple of new external monitors with what is typically deemed "gimmicky" features. The new SpatialLabs View and View Pro are standalone 15.6-inch 4K monitors with glasses-free stereoscopic 3D technology. Acer has previously included this tech in ConceptD notebooks, but it hasn't brought it to this format yet.
The standard SpatialLabs View is designed for entertainment use, while the Pro is for commercial users. The former gets the SpatialLabs TrueGame portal for playing 3D games. The app gives each of the 50 or so 3D-compatible games a pre-configured profile to help the games feel more immersive. You can expect some of the big titles: Forza Horizon 5, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and God of War.

The Acer Aspire Vero gets a redesign with a new National Geographic-inspired look. In case you didn't know, the Aspire Vero is the brand's first laptop made from post-consumer recycled plastics. The 15.6-inch laptop's chassis and screen bezel are made from 30% PCR plastic, while the keycaps are 50% PCR plastic. You can easily access and upgrade its specs. Plus, it ships with packaging made from 100% recyclable material.
