IoT Devices that could change our lives in the near future

By the year 2020, it is expected that there will be over 20 billion devices connected to the internet.  This is astonishing when you look at how far we’ve come, and it’s only going to get bigger once 5G rolls out around the world.  IoT refers to the ‘Internet of Things’ and within the next couple of years, the average American is expected to own 13 of these devices.  But what can we expect to see in the future?  Let’s take a look.

Get the perfect Instagram-worthy shot with this app

No Instagram boyfriend? No problem. This Korean photo app is here to help you get that perfect travel shot. Called SOVS (or SomeOne Very Special), the app will show your friends or the stranger you asked to take your photo how you’d want it to turn out. Just select from the menu of poses illustrated as white outlines and hand this over to the person taking the photograph. They would just need to superimpose the avatar over you. The outline size can be adjusted and moved around based on your liking. These can appear in the photo or just serve as a guide that disappears after the photo is taken. The shot can be a square or in a 3:4 ratio. There are two versions of this iOS app. SOVS costs 99 cents and is meant to be used for solo shots, while the SOVS2 is free and has different poses for group photos. You can unlock more of the poses via in-app purchases.

Galaxy M30’s leaked specs suggests triple rear cameras coming to Samsung’s midrange line

While there isn’t any word yet if Samsung plans to bring its Galaxy M10 and M20 smartphones to this side of the world, the company is reportedly preparing another new model for this midrange line. And it seems Samsung is keeping to its word of bringing new tech into its midrange line. The M30 will reportedly have the same design as the M10 and M20, except this time, it’ll be packing a triple camera setup in the back. It’ll have a 13-megapixel main camera and two 5-megapixel shooters to accompany that. It’s said to be slightly longer and wider than the M20 and will have a 6.38-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display. It’ll have a USB Type-C port, but it looks like it’ll be ditching the headphone jack.

Other rumoured specs include Exynos 7904 processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and 5,000mAh battery. We don’t know yet if and when Samsung plans to launch this phone, but with these specs, it seems like a compelling device to have in any market.

Apple reportedly working on making its own modems

What might be costing Apple a lot right now could pay off in the long run. Reuters reports that Apple is seriously considering making its own in-house smartphone modems so that it won’t have to rely on the likes of Intel and Qualcomm to make it for them. The report cites two anonymous sources who are said to be familiar with the matter. The sources claim Apple has shifted engineering staff that worked on modem technology in the supply chain division to its in-house hardware tech division. Report claims Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware technologies, has also taken over the company’s modem design efforts last month.

Modems are integral for phones to connect to wireless network towers. Qualcomm used to supply these for Apple before their relationship turned sour. Intel took over but rumour has it Apple isn’t particularly happy with the company’s performance. It makes sense then that they might want to shift to making their own modems. Some of its Android competitors, like Huawei and Samsung, already make their own modems.
