Apple commemorates World Cup final with Apple.com overhaul

Ahead of the World Cup final, Apple seems to be getting into the spirit of it, too. French Apple news site, iPhoneAddict spotted a change to Apple’s homepage where a short three-second clip with floating soccer balls and the French flag are floating around. After the video is played, the regular Apple homepage reappears. The Apple’s homepage for Croatia is similar too, except without the Croatian flag. What’s floating around instead is a fire and heart emoji with soccer balls floating around. Apple has been gung-ho about promoting the World Cup this year with the tournament being featured in different apps and services.

Netflix’s ‘Extinction’ has Michael Peña trying to stop an alien invasion

It all started out as a dream—or rather the worst possible nightmare to come true. That seems to be the premise of the upcoming alien invasion film on Netflix called Extinction. It stars Ant-Man’s comic relief Michael Peña as the lead with Lizzy Caplan playing his wife. He seems to have a recurring dream of the invasion ahead of it happening. Another Marvel actor joins the film as Luke Cage’s Mike Colter also appears in the film. You can check out the official trailer for Extinction, which hits the service on July 27^th.

Google says it’s ‘working on a fix’ for Pixel 2 camera issue

Google has finally acknowledged a long-standing issue with the Pixel devices’ camera and has said it is “working on a fix” for it. The problem is that the camera app gets a “fatal camera error” message that appears when users try to launch the Pixel 2 camera app or try and take a picture. Some users just needed to clear the camera app’s cache to get it working, while others needed to factory reset their devices. However, these fixes don’t seem to work for everyone. And a Pixel user talking to Google about this on Twitter had the company respond to them saying they are working on the problem. Now, when this fix is coming, we can’t say. Hope it’s sooner than later, especially with a new Pixel already on the horizon.

Google Assistant music controls migrates out of Google Home, brings rewinding and forwarding to other devices

You may or may not be familiar with this feature but if you ask Google Assistant to control music on your Google Home, you can ask it to rewind or forward into specific parts of a song. (For example, “Rewind 45 seconds…”) That feature used to only be available on Google’s Home platform, but Google has finally brought this feature to its other platforms, including Android phones and tablets, Chromebooks, Android TV, and even Android Auto.

There are still things Google needs to finetune for this, though. As pointed out in Android Central’s story, Google Assistant has trouble recognizing a voice command when playing music on said device and won’t thus respond to the media command. App support is still a bit limited, too. Here’s to hoping Google develops this further to make handsfree media commands that much easier to use and more accessible to more users.
