Dropbox drops support for Windows 8.1 official apps

If you’re still clinging to your Windows 8.1-powered PC or tablet, you’re going to have add the official Dropbox app to the list of apps you can’t use with your device. The app can no longer be installed from the Store and it’s no longer running if you try and open it. What is still working is the desktop program. You can still download that and sync your files there. Microsoft has already dropped its support for Windows 8.1 six months ago, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that companies are moving on from it as well.

Black Widow’s movie now has a director

Moving on to more definite Marvel news. The standalone Black Widow film has finally gotten its director. The Scarlett Johansson-led film will be directed by Australian filmmaker Cate Shortland (of Lore and Berlin Syndrome fame). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has met with over 70 directors to find the ideal candidate. Hiring a woman to direct the film was said to be a priority and Johansson herself advocated for Shortland. Earlier this year, Marvel hired Jac Schaeffer to write the film’s script. It’s reportedly going to be set before the events of the first Avengers film. No word yet when this movie might come out but it’s definitely long overdue.

The standalone movie won’t be the first female-led Marvel movie to come out, though. That title goes to Captain Marvel, which is one of the two films (the other being Avengers 4) closing out Marvel’s Phase 3. The Phase 4 films are expected to start hitting theatres next year, which we presume is where this movie will be included in.

‘Daredevil’ star Charlie Cox weighs in on possible season 2 of ‘Defenders’

Netflix

Best to not hold your breath for this one. Daredevil’s lead actor Charlie Cox recently admitted that he has no clue if we’ll be getting another season of Marvel’s The Defenders in our future. The individual season of the different Defenders are being announced but no word yet if we’ll ever see the team-up hit Netflix’s service again. Cox said at the Las Vegas Comic Con, “I have no idea about Defenders. I know that I had a great time doing the first season and I love those guys and I love the work that we did and I love all of their shows.” And while we don’t know if we will ever see the team together again, we do know that Daredevil is coming back and Comicbook.com speculates this could happen later this year.
