SkyDrive no more: Microsoft's cloud storage is OneDrive

Because of a branding dispute with Sky Broadcasting group, Microsoft is rebranding SkyDrive to OneDrive.

Microsoft's put up a preview site promising that "OneDrive is coming soon." You can sign up to receive updates or just wait until you need to sign into SkyDrive again. Will Microsoft add more free space or features? Here's what they have to say.

"Why OneDrive? We know that increasingly you will have many devices in your life, but you really want only one place for your most important stuff. One place for all of your photos and videos. One place for all of your documents. One place that is seamlessly connected across all the devices you use. You want OneDrive for everything in your life.

Of course, changing the name of a product as loved as SkyDrive wasn’t easy. We believe the new OneDrive name conveys the value we can deliver for you and best represents our vision for the future. We are excited about what is to come, and can’t wait to share more."

Apple reportedly creating service for mobile payments

A new report from the Wall Street Journal claims that Apple is hoping to penetrate the mobile payment arena to help customers who use their credit cards to pay for items on iTunes. Jennifer Bailey, an Apple executive that works on the company’s online stores, is supposedly developing the service at the moment. Meanwhile, iTunes and App Store head Eddy Cue and a “key lieutenant” of CEO Tim Cook are meeting with industry executives to discuss this possible new venture. How this will affect the existing mobile payment industry or compete against the other services is yet to be seen.
