Metrolinx now supports Apple Pay on Toronto's Up Express

You can now use your iOS device to pay for your fare on Toronto's Up Express, which connects Downtown Toronto with Toronto Pearson International Airport. It will work to pay for adult fares, but you'll still need a Presto card for student or senior discounts.

According to Metrolinx, you have to make sure to avoid "card clash" when paying via Apple Pay. If you tap on using Apple Pay on your iPhone, you'll need to tap on again when you get off at your destination using your iPhone. Don't use other Apple Pay-supported devices on the same trip (like your Apple Watch). Onboard, you will also use your iPhone to get your ticket verified.

You can preset your preferred credit card on your iPhone for easy access. It will support Visa, Mastercard, or American Express credit cards as part of this pilot.

The Apple Beat: Apple Pay now an option for donating to causes and non-profits, MacBook Pros in the wild

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Apple Pay has been touted as the next generation mobile payments platform and Apple’s done a great job of securing global banks and partners, making ApplePay an option in major retailers and restaurants and even tuning their hardware so Apple Pay is one fingerprint or password away from enabling a quick and secure sale, even the new MacBook Pros feature a Touch ID button to make this easy.

According to their newsroom, Apple Pay now ‘makes it easier and more security to donate to nonprofit organizations.’ This is a great and safe option not just for responding to emergencies such as earthquakes, floods and other catastrophes but also for sending funds to causes, nonprofits and other charities. The list of nonprofits and charities is up on Apple’s website, it’s mostly from International and American organizations, I hope Canadian nonprofits can be included soon, specially as we’re headed into the season of giving.

Canadians can use Apple Pay on vending machines using PayRange App

iPhones can now interact with vending machines thanks to Apple Pay and the PayRange App. Apple Pay can be used to fund the PayRange iOS app, which is being supported by members of the Canadian National Vending Alliance. The app can only be used with BluKey dongle enabled machines, although operators easily install the hardware in seconds.

This extends the range of Apple Pay and adds convenience to users who might be carrying small change for a pop or a bag of chips. Looks like Apple Pay is quickly gaining traction since its June roll out.
