The Apple Beat: iPad turns five

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

I spent most of my time on the iPad with the Safari browser, which is stellar on the tablet. If there's an inherent game-changing feature in the iPad it is how it relates web surfing to the form factor. How the screen manages to reveal entire webpages in your hand in such crisp and functional detail is simply awe-inspiring. Multi-touch is the best way to navigate the Internet and multi-touch on the iPad just works.

The iPad quietly celebrated its 5th birthday this weekend and it is hard to believe that this game-changing device has been with us for 5 years already and has evolved the way many of us interact with each other through e-mail, social media and the web as well as with tens of thousands of ‘made for iPad’ apps.

Ten One Design launches 'Force Touch' enabled Inklet app for new Apple trackpad

One of the bigger innovations released by Apple this year is the Force Touch trackpad in the upcoming MacBook and new MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina Display. Force Touch enables pressure sensitive drawing much like some standalone drawing tablets, it also has force-feedback that simulates button presses.

Available today for $24.95, Inklet 1.6 is the first third-party drawing application to add Force Touch support. It allows any Mac drawing program to gain pressure-sensitive input, and can be used with either a stylus or just a fingertip. This opens up a whole new range of functionality for marking up documents, creating accurate sketches or even just signing documents and PDFs right on a compatible Mac's trackpad. Here's hoping more developers create apps that make use of this innovation.

Apple to remove Jawbone and Nike FuelBand health trackers from stores to make way for Apple Watch

Months after discontinuing sales of the FitBit trackers, Apple is reportedly removing Jawbone Up24 and Nike FuelBand devices from its stores to make way for Apple Watch displays. Space is a finite resource in Apple Retail Stores, so it makes sense that Apple will jettison third party products in favour of their latest product. Retail Stores are expected to receive an overhaul to accomodate the unique display and selling of Apple Watch devices and straps.
