SlideShow: First look at the Nexus 6

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

I had the chance to check out pre-release versions of the upcoming Nexus 6 from Google and Motorola as well as get a preliminary look at Android 5.0 Lollipop. The 6-inch smartphone, which looks and feels like a supersized Moto X, will be made available in Midnight Blue and Cloud White, it is the largest Nexus handset ever shipped, and is also available for pre-order in the US today, Canadian pre-orders are expected early November. Pricing is expected at around  CAD $749 for the 32GB and $799 for the 64GB variants respectively.

The Nexus 6 isn't being marketed as a 'phablet' but it is bigger than the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and even the iPhone 6 Plus. It runs a quad-core 2.7GHz processor and is designed to excel at multimedia and has a 13 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization. Another huge feature is the inclusion of Motorola's Turbo Charger which they say only needs 15 minutes to charge 7 hours of use. It will be sold via Google Play in 32 GB and 64 GB storage capacities as well as with various Canadian carriers. Stay tuned for more Canada-specific information in the coming weeks.

The original iPod embodied Apple’s uncanny ability to reach in and take a product that has already been in the market, and redesign it from the ground up to be the best possible version of itself.

iOS 8 adoption now over 50 per cent 6 weeks after launch

Despite a somewhat rocky start, Apple' iOS 8 mobile OS has hit the 50 per cent adoption rate across users after 6 weeks. Launched together with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus almost a month ago.

iOS 8 installed base as of Oct. 27 is on 52 per cent of devices registered through the App Store. Apple announced the findings on its developer webpage. iOS 8 is the biggest change in look, and more importanly, in functionality in seven years. iPhone and iPad users are usually quick to update to the latest versions of the OS since Apple makes the updates easily available and because many benefit from some of the new features present in the latest hardware.

Review: Nokia Lumia 830

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

The Nokia Lumia 830 from Microsoft Devices is likely the last Windows Phone smartphone to ship under the Nokia brand. Since Microsoft acquired Nokia last year, it decided to let go of the Nokia brand and focus on the Lumia name. For better or for worse, this is how things will be going forward.
