Too bad that the name LG Optimus G doesn't really say much about what could be the year's most surprising and impressive Android smartphone yet.

The iPad mini represents a departure from the 9.7-inch tablet market that Apple has defined and dominated. The iPad mini is entering a scattershot mini-tablet market ranging with expensive $500 7-inch Android tablets at one end and cheap $199 eReader at the bottom. But the Fun-Size iPad is clearly in a league of its own as a smaller yet full featured tablet. Here are my very early impressions.
CIBC and Rogers Communications are gearing up to launch Canada's first joint mobile payment solution, allowing Canadians to pay with their CIBC credit card at the checkout counter using their Rogers "Near Field Communications" (NFC) enabled smartphone. Customers will be able to use this payment capability at merchants across Canada where contactless credit card payments are accepted. The service launches today with Olympian Simon Whitfield.
Photo of the iPad mini line at the Toronto Eaton Centre from @CityMelanieThe lines for iPad mini at the Eaton Centre in Toronto began as early as 1 am. Around 45 people were lined up in anticipation for Apple's iPad mini which went on sale in store at 8:00 a.m. today. The smaller iPad offers the features and power of the iPad 2 but in a smaller 7.9-inch size, it will be available in white and silver as well as slate and black and is currently a WiFi only device (a 4G version ships late November). Preorders for the iPad mini began last week and online stock for all models quickly sold out. There is now a two week waiting period of online orders. The iPad mini starts at $329.
