The Apple Beat: iPad mini will likely succeed by creating its own niche


Amazon's getting twitchy about the iPad mini. It ran this comparison on its websiteBy Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Apple did not create the iPad mini to battle Amazon's Kindle or even Google's Nexus 7, at least not in price. The new 7.9-inch tablet, which shares a lot of the specs of the iPad 2, is likely going to create its own niche while diversifying the iPad's existing user base.

This weekend has been a Microsoft Windows 8 frenzy and it is not over yet. From the desktop focus now shifts to smartphones with the release of Windows Phone 8. First Impressions of Windows 8

I was quite apprehensive about upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8. My main PC is a Lenovo ThinkPad X220, which wasn't designed with the touch-happy OS in mind and it ran Windows 7 just fine. Did I really need to jump on Windows 8?

Where to buy Microsoft's Surface tablet tomorrow

This Friday is when Microsoft begins shipping Windows 8 and starts selling its entry into the modern tablet market known as Microsoft Surface, which was open to pre-order a week ago. You can order online but it will take 1 to 2 weeks to get the device. 

Microsoft has a number of temporary pop-up stores in the following locations. Burnaby, British Columbia (Metropolis at Metrotown); Edmonton, Alberta (West Edmonton Mall); Toronto (Eaton Centre); Vancouver, BC (Oakridge Centre).
