Ubisoft Winnipeg expands hiring as company plans to invest more in the country

Ubisoft is focusing on expanding its operations in Canada with a recent announcement of creating 200 more jobs in Manitoba and expanding its Winnipeg studio to 300 employees by 2030. The company intends to invest an additional $139 million in the province of Manitoba, tripling its current studio size. This will bring the developer's total investment in the area to $264 million from 2018 to 2030.

The company also previously targeted to grow its Winnipeg studio to 100 within five years of its founding. And that will already be met this month, more than a year ahead of its commitment. Ubisoft plans to continue investing in local entrepreneurs and contribute $1 million to the ecosystem by 2030. Ubisoft Winnipeg intends to hire additional Programmers, including Engine Programmers, Tools Programmers, Online Programmers, and talent from other specialized areas of expertise to support its ambitious plans. Netflix's newest hire will lead its podcast efforts

Netflix brings onboard a former Apple executive to lead its Podcasting Operations. N'Jeri Eaton left Apple last week and will join Netflix later this month. She will be in charge of the company's podcast initiatives and report to Chief Marketing Officer Bozoma Saint John, another former Apple executive.

Just like what Apple has been doing with Apple TV+, Netflix will be creating podcasts for its original programming. Some of its content that already have companion podcasts include The Witcher, The Crown, and The Irishman.

Uber plans to double the size of its Toronto technical team

Before 2021 is over, Uber plans to double the size of its technical team in Toronto. The ride-hailing and food delivery company plans to hire around 60 people for its engineering, data science, design, and product management teams. There will also be two new divisions coming to Canada—one will focus on core rider experience and the other on memberships.

The former will manage, improve, and develop products and infrastructure needed for the Uber app to work and be more reliable for riders. The latter will focus on growing Uber's members by looking for ways to offer new partnerships, integrations, and exclusive deals. This hiring comes after Uber laid off over 3,000 of its global staff (around 14%) because demand plummeted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
