Don't expect OnePlus 7 to have wireless charging

If you've been clamoring for wireless charging on the next OnePlus phone, then we're sorry to say but it doesn't look like that's happening just yet. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau told CNET during an interview at MWC 2019 that he doesn't think it's worth adding to his products. He said through an interpreter that "OnePlus charging is one of the best." And that "wireless charging is far inferior."

Lau expressed his skepticism over wireless charging speeds. With the company's own physical quick charge plug, OnePlus claims you can get your battery to 50 percent charged in 20 minutes and fully charged in less than an hour. OnePlus is working on speeding up the charging time for wireless charging, but it still hasn't figured out how to do so without too much heat. When asked about Qualcomm's plans to bring quick-charge technology to wireless charging, Lau refused to comment about possibly using the technology.

OnePlus adds Google Duo integration into OxygenOS Phone app

OnePlus has done its best to keep its devices as close to stock Android as possible. One of the newest features the company is introducing is a deeper integration of Google Duo into the Phone app. Google has this integration in the Pixel dialer, but since OnePlus uses its own app, the company decided to add its own take on the feature. As of OxygenOS 9.0.12 on the OnePlus 6T and OxygenOS 9.0.4 on the OnePlus 6, 5, and 5T, there will be a video button visible alongside names in your contacts as well as in the call log. OnePlus 3 and 3T will be getting the feature once the Android Pie update reaches these devices.

The inclusion came about because of the users' request. The company did a survey with OnePlus users in India and found that Google Duo ranked highest in terms of video call quality. The traditional carrier video calling feature will remain available through the option “Contact > Select contact > See all > Choose video call."

OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition might have 50W Warp Charging

Aside from carrying what's most likely going to be a really expensive price tag, there's one feature coming to the limited edition OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition. The latest teaser from OnePlus suggests the phone will be "charging is about to hit warp speed." What does warp speed mean? In this case, it's going to most likely get a 50W charger in the box.

Earlier this year, OnePlus trademarked Warp Charge, not soon after its sibling company OPPO unveiled Super VOOC (50W) charging for its own supercar-themed OPPO Find X Lamborghini Edition. Aside from possibly getting 50W charging, OnePlus is ditching its signature red charging cable for an orange one to match McLaren's signature colour. We should know more once the phone launches in London on December 11th.

OnePlus 6T update adds an equalizer for Bluetooth headphones

One consequence of OnePlus getting rid of the headphone jack in the OnePlus 6T is users lost the Audio Tuner option a.k.a. the equalizer. This only worked for wired headphones. So, unless you used USB-C headphones, you didn’t have access to the equalizer. Well, that’s being addressed today. Oxygen OS 9.0.7 brings the feature back for Bluetooth headphones. The update also improves Bluetooth and Wi-Fi stability as well as less power consumption on standby. Shooting in slow-motion should also be a better experience.

Some of the other bug fixes include display issues with the wallpaper on the lock screen. It’s an incremental rollout though so you may or may not see the update hit your device immediately.
