When the Apple iPad came early this year it redefined the a new market segment. The iPad brought with it the promise of truly untethered mobile computing without the need for a physical keyboard or even a full-blown operating system. Eight months down the line, challengers are beginning to emerge but are any of them truly competitive or is Apple too far ahead?

It is called the PlayBook and it is RIM's new 7-inch tablet which features a 1GHz dual-core processor and integrates with user's existing BlackBerry accounts. The PlayBook can handle Flash 10.1 as well as HTML5 web standards as well as Adobe Air integration. Powered by QNX OS which highlights security and stability, the PlayBook is expected to be available in 2011. Video and photos after the break.

Samsung teased and teased some more before finally unveiling its Android powered Galaxy Tab earlier today. The 7-inch Android tablet sports dual cameras, 3G data and voice and full HD video playback, Details and specs of the device, official photos plus an official TV advert are available after the break.
Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 10:26AM Here's a recently leaked video from Mobileburn.com of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab we wrote about back in June. From the video we learn it will be launched on September 2, 2010, will run Android OS 2.2, it has video calling capability and e-reader functionality and the 7-inch form factor allows it to be held with one hand.
