Samsung will reportedly reduce modifications for Android devices

When Samsung unveiled the 12.1-inch Galaxy tablet at CES 2014, it would seem Google wasn’t happy with the debut of the Magazine UX Samsung introduced with the new Android tablet. Re/code reports that Google has pushed Samsung to reduce the modifications they introduce into future devices. We’re not sure what deal they might have struck or what this means for future devices. Perhaps the new 10-year patent licensing agreement between the two tech giants plays a role here or Samsung might be making a new Nexus device.

Google and Samsung enter 10-year patent licensing agreement

Google and Samsung have entered an agreement to license their patents over the next decade. The move is seen to help speed up product development and research and lessen any future patent lawsuits. Looks like Samsung wants to stay in Google’s good graces even as the company develops its own operating system and Google acknowledges the importance of Samsung devices for the Android market.

Samsung files for patent to allow mobile devices to track head movements

Credit: European Patent Office

As the rumours of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 continue to surface, CNet reports that Samsung has a new European patent application that specifies a method to control smartphones with the front-facing camera registering head movements. There have been no confirmation when the technology will even be put to use but speculation suggests this new tech might make its debut on an upcoming device from the Korean IT giant.

The application indicates the technology is meant for times when users can’t touch the phone or are wearing gloves that make it hard for the touch-screen to recognize. Operating the phone at those moments can then be done through eye movement, nodding, or even pronounced eyebrow raising.
