Car-sharing service Car2Go ceases service in Toronto over prohibitive parking regulations

Car2Go is considered one of the most recognizable and popular car sharing services which has allowed many Canadians to get by without owning a car, which can be expensive in a city like Toronto where most of the parking spaces have been converted into high-rise condos.

Car2Go, which has 80,000 customers in Toronto, announced it is shutting down operations in the downtown core due to what it calls prohibitive parking permit fees. The familiar blue and white SmartCar vehicles will soon disappear from 350 parking spaces in Toronto.

GM brings Maven City app-driven car-sharing service to Canada

Car sharing reduces congestion and helps everyone get there faster. Each shared car takes about 10 private cars off the road, and thanks to Maven, car ownership in Toronto is no longer necessary. - GM

GM has been looking at various possibilities for the future. It is all-in on EVs and has brought both the Volt hybrid and Bolt EV to market, it has brought innovative Cadillac car-rental model with BOOK by Cadillac which ensures a new, fully gassed up Cadillac delivered right to your door every month.

For the rest of us, there's Maven, which is GM's car-sharing service.  Maven is a personal mobility app that provides on-demand vehicle access for everyday life. Pricing is arounf $9.00 per hour for compact cars. GM is also entering a market with various incumbents, including Car2Go, Turo, Enterprise CarShare and the leading provider in Toronto, ZipCar.ca.

Ride hailing service Lyft coming to Toronto in time for holidays

Ride hailing service Lyft is coming to Toronto, Canada to compete with Uber. The service announced it plans to be operating in the GTA by the holidays (so, December). This is the first time since Hailo shut down that Torontonians have had a choice in app-driven ride hailing services. Lyft has a better reputation than Uber and is generally better received although many drivers drive for both Uber and Lyft. Beow is a statement from Lyft.
