Twitter no longer crops images

Twitter has gotten rid of its algorithm crops on pictures. So, if you upload a photo on iOS or Android, you'll see the image in its entirety. Those who take a lot of vertical pictures are very happy with this change, as CNET reported. Before this, the service's algorithm would determine the most sensible part of the picture to crop and just show a preview on the feed. And while it does take out the surprise element of previewed images, this change helps visual artists and photographers on the platform showcase their work in the way they're meant to be seen.

Twitter users with 600+ followers can host Spaces

Twitter Spaces (Twitter)

Twitter continues to take advantage of Clubhouse's absence on Android by rolling out Spaces to all accounts with 600 or more followers. According to the company, "these accounts are likely to have a good experience hosting live conversations because of their existing audience." Spaces offers a live audio experience within the Twitter app, a market that grew during this pandemic because of the app Clubhouse.

Some of the features users can expect to come to Spaces include Ticketed Spaces, where hosts can charge for the events; schedule and set reminders for upcoming Spaces; co-hosting Spaces; improved accessibility features, like customizable live captions; and "more ways to find Spaces," which Twitter is testing already.

Twitter Spaces gets a wider rollout on Android

Source: 9to5Google

Twitter's take on Clubhouse's drop-in-drop-out voice chatrooms is rolling out to more Android users. Twitter Spaces first started coming to users enrolled in the Twitter beta program, but now 9to5Google says more users see the option on their devices. Like Clubhouse, Spaces will let you create a chatroom that practically anyone can join, provided you have the original broadcast or chatroom link. Twitter Spaces allows you to invite up to 10 active speakers. You can give your Space session and name, and when it goes live, it'll show up in the same area where Twitter Fleets (its take on Stories) reside at the top of the home feeds.

To check if Spaces is available for you, head to the Compose button. From there, an expanded FAB should show Spaces alongside Photos and Gif.

You can now tweet pictures in 4K on mobile

It feels like a long time coming, but Twitter finally allows its mobile users to tweet and view pictures in 4K. Its web app already supports higher-resolution images (up to 4,096 x 4,096), but Android and iOS users were limited to half of that resolution before this update.

To use this new feature, you will need to go to the "Data usage" section of the settings menu in the app. You will need to enable both "high-quality images" (for viewing) and "high-quality image uploads" (for tweeting). You can select whether you'd see or upload these images on cellular and Wi-Fi, just Wi-Fi, or disabled entirely.
