Twitter for Android bug matched 17 million phone numbers to user accounts

Security research Ibrahim Balic claimed to have exploited a bug on Twitter's Android app that let him match 17 million phone numbers to users' accounts. He was able to upload full lists of generated phone numbers through the app's contacts upload feature. TechCrunch reported the discovery and Twitter had blocked the flaw on December 20.

Balic generated over two billion numbers, and he was able to match it to records of users in France, Germany, Iran, Greece, Turkey, Israel, and Armenia. He was able to fetch user data on them and informed high-profile Twitter users, through a WhatsApp group, about the vulnerability. Balic didn't alert Twitter about the vulnerability, though. Twitter assures TechCrunch that the bug "cannot be exploited again."

Google Photos might soon allow you to zoom in on videos

While looking through version 4.33 of Google Photos, XDA Developers found that the app might soon introduce a new feature that will allow you to zoom in on videos while they're playing. While it might not be useful to some people, this feature could be helpful when zooming in on concert clips. It isn't clear, though, when Google plans to release it.

Tesla's Trans-Canada Highway Supercharger network is now live

Tesla has officially opened the Trans-Canada Highway Supercharger network, letting you drive from one Canadian coast to the other with your electric car. The electric vehicle manufacturer has been building this network for over a year, and a lot of these stations are modern 250kW V3 chargers. These chargers can add about 125km of range in five minutes, which is faster than its older models. Electrek reports that the stations are marked open in Tesla's in-car Supercharger finder, but Tesla's site doesn't reflect the change just yet. You can check third-party tracker site supercharge.info for updates on what charging stations are live.
