Sony takes Xperia Weather app out of beta

If you’re an Xperia user who values getting weather updates, the Weather app for Sony’s mobile phones are now out of beta and on the Google Play Store. Just like other weather apps it shows current conditions including temperature, wind, humidity, and the like. It also shows a three-day forecast and pretty cool background images to match the weather. Of course, you can also have a widget on your home screen as well. The beta program of the app will continue to exist though and new updates will hit that program first.

Apple opens a replacement program for the USB-C charge cable of the Retina MacBook

If you’ve been noticing issues with the charging cable of your Retina MacBook, that may not be your fault. Apple’s just launched a worldwide replacement program for its USB-C charge cables that come with the 12-inch Retina MacBook sold from April 2015 through June 2015. These cables can supposedly fail due to a “design issue.” It could possibly not charge your MacBook or charge it intermittently while connected to a power adapter. The problematic cables can be identified with the label “Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in China.” The redesigned cable will have the same words but with a serial number included.

Apple will give these MacBook users the redesigned USB-C cable for free. The replacement program doesn’t just cover those that ship with the MacBook but also faulty cables that were sold as standalone accessories. Customers who gave a valid mailing address when they registered or purchased their MacBook through Apple’s Online Store will get sent the new cables immediately. Other eligible MacBook owners can get in touch with Apple Support, look for an Authorized Service Provider, or visit an Apple retail store to get the cables replaced. You can get your cable replaced until June 8, 2018.

Pandora reportedly wants to get acquired

Pandora seems to be positioning itself to be acquired. A report from The New York Times claims Pandora, with the guidance from Morgan Stanley, is currently in preliminary discussions for a possible acquisition. It isn’t specified if there are potential buyers. Recent moves from Pandora’s end—like buying technology from the now-shuttered Rdio and acquiring Ticketfly—are believed to help make the service more attractive to streaming music fans, especially with its stocks down 60 percent since October 2015. But it can also be looked at as a way to make the company more attractive to potential buyers. Pandora won’t comment on the report but we won’t be surprised if we hear more about this in the future.

New Netflix documentary series ‘Cooked’ explores our connection with home cooking

Food guru and author Michael Pollan takes us into the world of home cooking with his new Netflix documentary series coming out on February 19. Called Cooked, the series will explore the origins of home-cooked meals, its preparation, and how these are connected to traditions, feelings, and memories.

According to the description of its trailer video on YouTube: “Explored through the lenses of the four natural elements – fire, water, air and earth – COOKED is an enlightening and compelling look at the evolution of what food means to us through the history of food preparation and its universal ability to connect us. Highlighting our primal human need to cook, the series urges a return to the kitchen to reclaim our lost traditions and to forge a deeper, more meaningful connection to the ingredients and cooking techniques that we use to nourish ourselves.”
