Darkroom for iOS adds sharing ability for filters and better color altering tool

Photo editing app Darkroom adds more tools under its belt with its latest update. Version 2 of the app adds the ability for users to share custom filters on Instagram. The app shares this in a unique way though. When you post a photo on Instagram with a filter from Darkroom, others can take a screenshot of the photo. There will be an on-image QR code showing up there and that filter will then be made available to them.

The app’s color tool now also lets you choose specific color profiles in your photo as well as adjust hue, saturation, and luminance for each. Darkroom also now lets you favorite and delete photos while you edit, the save function will let you overwrite your existing photo with edited one. You can also now transfer edits from one photo to another. If you want access to the color tool and filter sharing though, you’ll need to make an in-app purchase to “Pro Mode.” That’ll set you back US$3.99.

WhatsApp for iOS now lets you backup video chats

WhatsApp on iOS gets a significant update with new features including the ability to back up your video chats. The app also gets a new look for cropping pictures and videos. It also now lets you share your location via Apple Maps. If you worry about the app using up more data than you think it should, you can also reduce data usage used when you make calls through the settings > chat and calls section.

WhatsApp also now lets you mute notifications for more active chats. You just need to swipe right to mark a chat as read or unread. You can even share contacts from the Contacts app as well. The features are rolling out to iOS now. There isn’t word yet if Android will be getting some of these new features.

If the new job listing from Apple is anything to go by, there might be more Apple apps for Android coming our way soon. For now, we know Apple Music and Move will be coming to Google’s mobile operating system this fall. But as the listing for “Applications SW Engineer – Android” says: “We’re looking for engineers to help us bring exciting new mobile products to the Android platform.” It succinctly explains what they need but what products are heading the way of the Android platform isn’t known for now. We will find out soon enough.

Epson’s new EcoTank printers can last for up to two years without refills

ET-4550

If you find refilling inks on your printers troublesome and a bit expensive, Epson is introducing a new line of printers designed with large ink reservoirs. How large? It’s touted to last you up to two years without having to refill. The EcoTank line introduces five new all-in-one colour printers for both the office and the home. Its tank is equivalent to having about 20 sets of ink cartridges, depending on the model you purchase. Replacement inks can go as low as $15.49 per bottle or $62 per set of bottles. As part of the company’s Supertank category, these combine MicroPiezo technology and large ink reservoirs. Some of the models come with two-year limited warranty with registration and built-in Wi-Fi capability.
