Google introduces certification program for Cardboard clones

Google Cardboard is an affordable way to experience virtual reality for the first time. It’s no wonder that clones have started to crop up. Google wants to rein them in or legitimize them with a new certification program. They want to unify the clone headsets and have them working under the badge “Works With Google Cardboard.” They will set guidelines for it and look over your headset so that they can assure that the clone headset will work with all Cardboard software. Seems like a good deal for developers we have to say.

Abrams names one of the planets on ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’

It’s a good day to be a Star Wars fan. Aside from getting the new trailer, J.J. Abrams gave a small tidbit for fans. He’s named one of the desert-like planets that will play an important role here in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. People initially assumed in the first production shots that it was Tatooine. Apparently, the new arid planet is called Jakku. The shooting locatin was in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Abrams won’t say anything beyond that though. It doesn’t matter though. We’re still excited.

Nixon Ultratide Surf Watch lets you know when you should surf

There are different smartwatches available out there now but sometimes you need something specific to cater to your needs. If you're a surfer (professional or otherwise), you might want to check out Nixon's Ultratide Surf Watch. The US$300 watch gets real-time data from Surfline and it'll show you the surf conditions of your favorite spots. It'll even show you 48-hour surf forecasts. To access information on your smartphone, it can be paired via Bluetooth using the Ultratide app. Unfortunately, it's iOS only at the moment. But an Android version is coming soon.
