Twitter adds dockable videos that will play clips while you browse

If we had picture-in-picture before, now we get picture-in-Twitter. After offering dockable audio cards, Twitter is turning to the moving picture counterpart. You can now watch clips as you browse through Twitter on Android or iOS. It will either let you watch a view in full screen or dock it to the bottom of the screen (like what you do on YouTube’s mobile app). A white progress bar shows how long the clip is and its audio will keep on playing if you plan to compose a tweet.

The opportunity in this lies in long-form videos. People are used to live-tweeting events but what if you don’t have to look at a TV screen anymore and just focus on your device? Advertisers can also use it to run short commercials as well.

Toca Boca’s Toca Boo brings scary, kid-friendly fun this Halloween

Halloween is just a few days away and what a perfect way to spend the spooky season than with a new scary yet kid-friendly digital toy app from Toca Boca. Toca Boo infuses a bit of scary excitement and humor into its game. It is inspired by traditional Swedish storytelling and Tove Jansson’s works. The game is set in a big old house as you play Bonnie, a girl dressed as a ghost to sneak around the house and scare her family. You must hide behind various objects and wait for your “victims.” When they show up, you just need to tap the person you want to scare and Bonnie will come out and scream “Boo!” The goal is to get as big a scare as possible.

Lenovo’s first fitness tracker makes its debut

Without much fanfare or hype, the first Lenovo fitness tracker makes its way out on the market. The Lenovo Smartband SW-B100 was introduced through a new product page on the company’s site but no official announcement from Lenovo just yet. There isn’t much separating it from its competitors though. It tracks the calories you burned, the steps you’ve taken, heart rate, and sleeping habits. It will even show you notifications about text messages and calls. We will let you know if we get word about price and availability.

BBM for Windows Phone expected to exit beta soon

The days of BlackBerry Messenger for Windows Phone being in beta are numbered. The app recently received an update and with it comes the announcement that a public launch is going to take place soon. The new update is intended to improve the experience for first-time BBM users.

There are currently over 91 million users of BBM with a bulk of them on BlackBerry’s own devices. But introducing the messaging service on different platforms is intended to widen the user base further. The Windows Phone launch will help do just that.
