Microsoft tipped to add folders to Windows Phone

It seems Microsoft is starting to take design cues from iOS and Android with reports that Windows Phone 8.1 will carry the ability to have folders on the Metro interface of the mobile operating system. The Verge reports that a removed support article showed the company’s plans to support app folders natively. It will be similar to how Android and iOS implement it by letting users drag one tile on top of another to create folders that users can rename. We will let you know if we find out anything else about this new report.

Opera Mini gets an update for iOS

Don’t want to use native Safari mobile browser or Google Chrome? Opera Mini for iOS just got a new update that adds a new surfing mode and interface that complements the iOS 7 design. Perhaps this will entice you to give this browser a try. Opera also introduced a new web surfing option called Opera Turbo. This mode compresses around half as much as Mini mode and gives you quicker access to your favorite sites with a customizable speed dial page. If you find your browser lacks a bit of style, you can also swap visual themes.

Other features include a Discover section that shows stories related to subjects such as technology, sports, arts, etc. but you can’t add your own sites to this section as well as the ability to scan QR codes right from the browser. If you want to give these new features a spin, you can download the app here.

Asus rumoured to be building cheapest Android Wear smartwatch to date

Following the announcements of the Samsung, LG, and Motorola Android Wear smartwatches, there are reports that Asus is developing the cheapest Android Wear smartwatch version yet. What would be its potential price, you ask? Somewhere between US$99 and $149. The watch will reportedly carry an AMOLED screen and would possibly carry gesture control features aside from the usual swipe and tap functionality. If there is any truth behind the rumours, we can expect to hear more about this in September.

Microsoft engineer teases potential gamechanger from Windows Phone

Microsoft looks like they are cooking up something special for its Windows Phone platform. But they aren’t saying too much about it. According to Jerry Berg, senior software development engineer in test at Microsoft, there are some great things ahead for the brand. Berg said during a Geek Lifestyles podcast: “You want to hear a cool teaser though. Just wait for it…something is going to happen in the Windows Phone space that will upset the entire world across everything.”

Some speculate that Berg is talking about the rumoured Nokia McLaren Windows Phone device, which will reportedly be the company’s new flagship device. It will have a more powerful camera than the Lumia 1020 as well as gesture recognition that takes out the needs for buttons to interact with the phone.
