Android voice search now lets you “call mom”

Google is making it easier for you to call your parents with the use of voice search. You can just say “call mom” or “call dad” instead of using their names. You just need to update your contacts and add your relationship with them to activate the feature. The Verge says this new feature is seen as part of Google’s plans to offer users functionality and utility in exchange of providing them with information.

VSCO Cam introduces photo feed a la Instagram

Looks like VSCO Cam wants a bit of Instagram’s market with the new photo feed that will let you publish photos and follow and view photos of other VSCO users on iOS. You can start following photographers you like by tapping the ‘Grid’ option in the navigation menu and then tapping on search to look for them. Just make sure you’re signed in with a VSCO account. You can view the feed in the ‘Home’ section. Unlike Instagram, you can’t like or comment on photos though. But you can view what filters they used when you load up a lightbox mode as well as see when the photo was taken, the aperture, flash, and ISO settings. Of course, you can share your own VSCO shot or edited photos over at your profile page.

VSCO has also added new features for version 3.0 including ‘Level & Tilt’ to straighten images, capability to order presets and filters with a single tap, and an improved crop tool. The features are reportedly coming to the Android app soon.

Mozilla to introduce ads in new tab page

While the new tab page on Firefox is usually reserved for your most visited sites, Mozilla is planning to introduce promotional tiles into that page. But first they will do so with those who cleared their history or those who are installing Firefox for the first time. The company guarantees they will label the tiles properly. As TechCrunch points out, this could be a trial to see how users will respond to the addition of ads into their space and could eventually be rolled out in a way that all new tab pages will feature some sort of sponsored link.
