Google brings new features to Pixel devices via new update

Google has released an update for both the latest Pixel 6 devices and the older Pixels bringing many new features to these phones. The Pixel 6 Pro gets Ultra-wideband (UWB) capability, making it easier to share photos and files via the Nearby Share function. The Pixel 6 series also gets the digital car key function, allowing you to unlock and start select BMW models.

Quick Tap to Snap is coming to the Pixel 4a 5G and newer devices. The feature, which was previously only available on the Pixel 6, lets you access Snapchat directly from your lock screen by double-tapping the back of the phone.

Google Pixel 4a 5G is now available in 'Clearly White' in Canada

Source: Google

Verizon's exclusivity on the Clearly White Pixel 4a 5G has now ended. This variant is now available as an unlocked model in Canada, Taiwan, Japan, and the US. Like the Just Black option, it still costs $679. It has a rear polycarbonate casing with a mint green power button. The screen is surrounded by a black frame, giving it a bit of two-tone colour.

The Pixel 4a 5G runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset, 6GB of RAM, and a 3,800mAh battery. It has a 6.2-inch OLED display with a 2,340 x 1,080 resolution, and a 12.megapixel rear camera paired with a 16-megapixel ultrawide sensor. This phone still has a 3.5mm audio jack, but the handset doesn't have an IP waterproof rating or wireless charging support.

Google Camera drops ultra-wide lens support for astrophotography on the Pixel 5, Pixel 4a 5G

The Google Camera 8.1 update is limiting the use of its astrophotography feature. For devices like the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G, these will lose the ultra-wide astrophotography support, which uses the ultra-wide lens. If you still want to use that sensor, it works with regular Night Sight photos (Night mode for other devices). Your Pixel will prompt you to "Zoom to 1x for astrophotography" before you can enter that mode.

Astrophotography works to help you take photos of the night sky when it's incredibly dark. You'll need to prop up your Pixel to get it to work. It isn't clear why Google introduced this change in November, but it might have something to do with overall image quality.

The Google Pixel 4a 5G is finally here

The Google Pixel 4a 5G, along with the Pixel 5, are the company's newest smartphones that go against the recent trend of experimental phones. These are traditional candy bar smartphones that aren't quite flagship phones anymore. Notably, the Pixel 4a 5G is marketed as a more affordable option than the Pixel 4. But it adds the buzzy 5G support to make it a phone fitting of 2020.

In Canada, the Pixel 4a 5G will be available in Just Black for $679.
