Samsung Galaxy S20 series gets July Android security patch

Samsung Galaxy S20 users are in for a treat. The Galaxy S20 series are the first smartphones to receive the July Android security patch, which brings different security improvements as well as some enhancements to the device. It's worth noting that the 386.35MB July update is rolling out even though we're still in June.

The July patch introduces camera tweaks like better magnification and video stabilization. The update also lets you use Bluetooth microphones to record audio using the phone's recording app. But if you use MirrorLink, unfortunately, the update no longer supports the feature. The update has rolled out in Korea, but it isn't clear yet when other parts of the world will get it. Hopefully, it's coming to this side of the world soon.

Is a green Samsung Galaxy S20 in our future?

A Samsung Twitter account in Japan teased a possible new colour option for the Galaxy S20 series. Leaker Ishan Agarwal shared the image on Twitter that shows a green hue surrounding the camera module, which looks like the Galaxy S20's camera. The colour seems to be a darker shade of green, which would be eye-catching. Now the question is whether this variant will be released and whether it'll make its way here. Only time will tell.

Samsung Galaxy S20 to support Google's Live Caption feature

The new Samsung Galaxy S20 series will be the first non-Pixel phone to get Google's Live Caption. The feature transcribes and captions videos in real-time with high accuracy. Google introduced Live Caption with the launch of Android 10 on the Pixel 4.

What doesn't seem to be coming to the Galaxy S20 yet is the Pixel's Recorder app. Using the same on-device transcription service as Live Caption, the Recorder app automatically transcribes recordings. For now, the feature looks like a Pixel-exclusive.
