Sennheiser IE 600 in-ear monitors feature 3D-printed, durable zirconium shells

Source: Sennheiser

Want to listen to heavy metal tracks on a pair of earbuds made from lightweight metal? Sennheiser recently introduced a new pair of in-ear monitors made with the same material used in drill bits for the Mars rover. The Sennheiser IE 600 are built with a shell composed of ZR01 amorphous zirconium. Zirconium is a shapeable metal that's highly resistant to corrosion. The audio brand opted to use this material because of its malleable nature and durability, promising you a pair of wired earbuds that are lightweight and durable.

The Sennheiser IE 600 uses either a 3.5mm or 4.4mm wired connection to support hi-fi and lossless audio. And like other Sennheiser in-ears, the earbuds disconnect at the earbud so you can easily swap out worn-out cables. According to the company, it features a single 7mm driver and precision-moulded resonator chambers for a "tonally neutral" sound profile. The IE 600s will launch later this spring with a hefty €699 (around CA$979 converted) price tag.
