Tumblr adds option to disable post reblogs

Screenshot: Tumblr

Tumblr is tweaking the way reblogs work on its platform. The company has started to roll out reblog controls on the web and iOS, with Android to follow. This will allow users to prevent other Tumblr users from reblogging a post they made. According to Tumblr, it made this feature available at the request of users. It's meant to give them a sense of safety and an improved posting experience on the platform.

So, if you block someone on Tumblr, they will not be able to reblog a post. As The Verge pointed out, there will be ways to work around this (like screenshots). But it does give you some control over how your content spreads and who engages with it on the website.

This is how you can back up your Tumblr posts

In case you haven’t heard yet, Tumblr will be removing all the adult content on its site on December 17th. Any nudity or explicit content not approved by the updated guidelines will be hidden and users won’t be able to upload any more adult content. If you want to save your posts before these get hidden, you can export your blog. And if you don’t know how to do that, we’re here to help you out.

Tumblr isn’t available on Apple’s App Store

If you’ve been trying to install or reinstall Tumblr on your iPhone, you might not be able to for now. The Tumblr iOS app isn’t available from Apple’s App Store. Tumblr says it’s “working to resolve an issue with the iOS app” but it isn’t clear if Tumblr took it down or it was removed by Apple. Some users have reported they’ve been able to re-download the app by going through their purchases page but at the moment, Tumblr said they are “still working on the issue with the iOS app.”

Some speculate the app has been taken out because of a certain type of inappropriate content that appears on the site. And as stated in Apple’s guidelines for iOS, there needs to be a content filter to screen out adult-oriented content. Earlier in the week, users were reporting that they were having issues searching within the iOS app when Safe Mode was off. Perhaps the company is sorting this out right now. Apple and Tumblr hasn’t commented yet on the cause of this issue.

Tumblr highlights its GIF-creation tool on iOS

In case you were privy or not, Tumblr had a GIF-creation tool inside its photo post option. Their making it more prominent though as a separate options so users will be aware it exists. You won’t just be able to create GIFs from your clips but also draw on top of them, or place emojis, or superimpose text, much like what you can do with Snapchat. Of course, it isn’t a comprehensive editor but you can tweak your GIFs as you please. It’s currently available on iOS but should be making its way to Android soon.
