Tim Cook: " We pave the sunlit path toward justice together, brick by brick. This is my brick."

I will personally continue to advocate for equality for all people until my toes point up.- Tim Cook

Apple's CEO Tim Cook penned a very personal and insightful editorial titled "Tim Cook Speaks Up." In his editorial, Cook discusses his pride in being a gay man and how this has made him more empathetic and aware of issues that minorities deal with. Cook writes, "While I have never denied my sexuality, I haven’t publicly acknowledged it either, until now. So let me be clear: I’m proud to be gay, and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me." Cook's letter is worth a read, it serves as a rare call for everyone to, as Cook says, "inspire people to insist on their equality." Check out the piece here.

First batch of Nexus 6 devices sell out in 6 seconds

Nexus 6 buyers in the US (not available in Canada, yet), camping out on the Google Play Store to purchase the largest and most expensive Nexus smartphone yet, were suprised and dissapointed when stock sold out in 6 seconds. Yearly demand for Nexus smartphones has traditionally been high, specially when they are first made available. This is because Nexus devices sold unlocked at Google's online store are usually way cheaper than if purchased in stores or through cellular providers. Nexus 6 will likely be available through various carriers in the US in the coming weeks as well as other regions, including Canada, sometime in early November.

For BlackBerry, the future is Classic

Almost a month after the launch of the BlackBerry Passport, CEO John Chen sent out an open letter heralding the next new device which is the BlackBerry Classic. The letter, made out to loyal (current and former) BlackBerry users states that the soon to be launched Classic is the successor to the popular Bold line of smartphones and that various user requests were considered in creating a new, improved and yet completely familiar experience.

"We are committed to earning your business – or earning it back, if that’s the case. In the weeks ahead, BlackBerry will be sharing more details about Classic that we think you’ll like," Chen's letter stated. Looks like this year of massive smartphone releases is far from over and BlackBerry has one remaining salvo before the holidays. We're excited to see what the BlackBerry Classic has to offer and if it will be a factor in gaining back that much needed market share.
