Next iPad Pro tipped for a 2020 release, features 3D sensors and dual cameras

If rumours are to be believed, we can expect more sensors on the next iPad Pro. The wait might be for a while, though. The tablet is expected to drop sometime in the first half of 2020. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the 2020 iPad Pro will have a dual-lens camera setup as well as a time-of-flight 3D sensor. Gurman claims this sensor will be the "centrepiece" of Apple's AR plans and could be the evolution of the tech powering Face ID. It could be used to 3D reconstruct rooms, people, and objects.

Leak shows possible screen sizes for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S11

Ben Geskin did a render of the Galaxy S11's rumoured display behind the Galaxy S10 lineup

Known leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) just shared the possible screen sizes of the upcoming Galaxy S11 lineup. There will supposedly be three models with significantly larger displays. The smallest will either be 6.2 or 6.4 inches, while the two larger ones will measure 6.7 and 6.9 inches. If we compare it to the S10 lineup, those have a 5.8-inch, 6.1-inch, and 6.4-inch screens.

According to Blass, the two smaller sizes will come with 5G and LTE options, while the biggest one will only be available in 5G. The screens will feature curved edges. If it keeps to Samsung's usual timeline for the launch of the S series, we expect to see the 2020 flagships in mid-to-late February.

Apple Watch patent shows possible addition of Touch ID

A recently discovered patent application hints at Apple Watch possibly getting in-display Touch ID for an additional level of security. The patent refers to "a touch sensing device, force-sensing device, temperature-sensing device, and/or fingerprint sensor" that can be placed behind the screen. It doesn't seem like a far off idea given that the Apple Watch already supports Apple Pay.

The patent describes having the wireless antennas on the watch moved to the strap so there will be room for more components under the screen. There is a caveat there, though. Moving components like Wi-Fi, cellular, and Bluetooth to the strap might affect its uses, given the wear and tear as well as the customizability Apple offers. But this is just a patent, so perhaps it might not see the light of day.
