Google releases final Pixel 3 security update

Moving on to other Android update news. If you want up-to-date security fixes for your smartphone, it might be time to let go of your Pixel 3. The company has confirmed it is delivering the last security update for the Pixel 3 and 3 XL, which is in line with a previous announcement that the first quarter of 2022 will mark the last time the device will get an update. It's unclear what the patch fixes, but the build ID supposedly matches an October patch released on newer Pixel models. So, this release is more of a catch-up update than the latest patch.

If you own a Pixel 3a or newer, those just received a February 2022 update that takes on some pesky problems, including reboots after camera use, Bluetooth audio disconnection and quality issues, carrier-specific connection troubles, and more.

Samsung tipped to offer 4 OS updates to newer devices

Source: Samsung

If the reports are accurate, Samsung Galaxy owners—at least those with the relatively newer devices—will get an extra year of major operating system updates and five years of security patches. The company will reportedly extend its Android update policy from three releases to four.

Compared to Apple's updates, the iPhones typically get at least six years' worth of upgrades. Still, this is good news for those planning to get the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8 devices, which the company is expected to launch at tomorrow's Unpacked event. Other Samsung devices reportedly getting this upgrade include the Galaxy S21 series and the Galaxy Z Flip3 and Fold3 devices.

You can watch Samsung's Unpacked keynote in VR

Source: Samsung

If you're invested in the metaverse, Samsung will let you watch its upcoming Unpacked event in virtual reality. The company will let you watch the event at 837X, a recreation of its flagship New York City store location within the virtual reality platform Decentraland.

As Engadget pointed out, Samsung hasn't made any recent advancements in the VR space. In fact, it announced plans to retire its Gear VR headset back in December without plans for a replacement. So, we aren't sure what benefits you'll have from watching the Unpacked event on Wednesday in virtual reality. But, if you just wanted to catch the event differently, you have that option.

Apple Music cuts down free trial to a month

For as long as Apple Music has been around, the streaming service offered first-time subscribers three months of free use. But it looks like that has changed. The company quietly shortened the free trial period to a month. We've checked the Canadian portal, and it already states that "One month free, then $9.99/month."

There don't seem to be any pricing changes yet. So, if you're already a subscriber, you don't have to worry about paying extra. If you're trying out the service for the first time, unfortunately, you don't have as much time to enjoy the features for free until you have to pay.
