Report: Apple might have trademarked 'homeOS' ahead of WWDC 2025

Source: MacRumors

Apple's long-rumoured homeOS operating system might finally be launching, at least according to the trademark activity spotted by MacRumors.

The news site reports that an apparent shell company, Home Operations Suite LLC, has submitted trademark applications for "HOMEOS" in several countries over the past few months, including Liechtenstein, the US, Argentina, and Peru. The trademark is now registered in Liechtenstein, but the applications are still pending elsewhere.

As MacRumors pointed out, there is no definitive proof Apple owns the supposed shell company. However, the tech giant has created limited-liability companies in the past to protect its intellectual property related to unannounced products quietly.

An example the news outlet gave was the visionOS trademark application submitted by another mysterious LLC shell company a month before WWDC launched the Vision Pro and its operating system.

homeOS is expected to be the software platform for Apple's rumoured smart home hub, which has been described as a HomePod with a screen. The device is anticipated to let you control smart home accessories, use Apple's intercom feature between rooms in your house, make FaceTime video calls and more.
