Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will now just receive quarterly updates

The Galaxy Note 8 is approaching its end-of-life phase as Samsung downgrades its update cycle. Instead of monthly updates, the handset will receive quarterly ones. The Note 8 has been around for three years, so this news isn't surprising. The phone joins the Galaxy S8 series in this demotion into quarterly security updates.

Note 8 owners can expect to receive patches and updates quarterly until October 2021, at least. After that date, it'll be up to Samsung to send over any fixes for significant security flaws or known exploits. So, if you're still hanging on to your Note 8, remember that this end-of-life phase has begun.

Facebook Portal devices get support for Netflix, Zoom

Source: Facebook

Facebook is updating its Portal devices to add Netflix and Zoom as supported apps. Netflix will only come to the Portal TV, joining other streaming services like Amazon Prime Video and Crave already available on the device. Facebook will be launching a new remote that gives you easy access to Prime Video, Facebook Watch, and Netflix, similar to what Google did with the new Chromecast.

As for Zoom, it'll be launching on the Portal smart displays (Portal Mini, Portal, and Portal+), with support for the Portal TV coming in the future. Zoom can even take advantage of its smart AI camera, which can keep the focus on you even if you move around.

Netflix rolls out new 'Worth the Wait' section on TV app

Source: Netflix

Netflix wants you to keep subscribing with a new tab it's introducing to its TV app. The new "Worth the Wait" row will show you content coming to the streaming service over at least the next 15 days and up to 365 days. Like the "Coming Soon" row, you can set reminders for the show or movie that catches your eye. The Coming Soon section shows content coming in the next week or two.

The addition of this new section might be Netflix's attempt to convince subscribers to keep their accounts, even if they aren't watching too many shows or movies at the moment. It's a way to let them know what's in the works and what you can look forward to. Perhaps it might keep you around even if Netflix increases its price. The new section is coming to the TV app first, but Netflix plans to test it out on the web later this year.
