Samsung’s Music Frame: A speaker that doubles as art

Photo: Samsung

Samsung has taken the TV from a bulky appliance to a sleek piece of home decor, and now it's doing the same for speakers. The Music Frame is the latest addition to Samsung's 2024 TV and audio lineup, and it's part of the Frame series that blends technology with art. At first glance, it looks like a simple picture frame, but it conceals six powerful speakers and Samsung's audio processing tech.

The Samsung Music Frame can display your favourite artwork or photos on its centre screen, a diasec matte acrylic plate called the "Art Panel." It can also produce immersive surround sound with Samsung's Q-Symphony technology, which lets it sync with TVs and soundbars from the 2024 catalogue. You can also use it as a standalone speaker via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

Samsung designed the Music Frame to be mounted on the wall and function as "a TV speaker, rear speaker, or a subwoofer" depending on the setup. It also has Samsung's SpaceFit technology that adjusts the volume based on the room's acoustics.

The Music Frame, which measures 13 x 13 inches, was showcased at CES 2024, but Samsung has not announced its release date or price yet.

LG Signature OLED T: LG's first wireless TV to go on sale

Photo: LG

LG Electronics is finally going to sell its first wireless transparent OLED TV. The LG Signature OLED T is a 77-inch screen that can blend into the environment when turned off or work as some 3D-like display with art being shown on the screen. You can place it anywhere, thanks to its wireless features that eliminate the need for cables and wires.

LG is not the only company that is experimenting with see-through screens. Its rival Samsung also showcased its micro LED technology that enables transparent screens at this year’s CES, too. However, Samsung’s screens are still in the prototype stage and haven't been commercialized yet.

Nuance Audio: The glasses that can help you hear better

Photo: EssilorLuxottica

EssilorLuxottica, the global leader in eyewear and lenses, has unveiled a pair of glasses that can assist people with mild to moderate hearing loss. These glasses, named Nuance Audio, combine stylish design with cutting-edge hearing technology. The glasses are available in two fashionable styles with frames that conceal the hearing devices. It makes sense for EssilorLuxottica to showcase this product following its acquisition of Nuance Hearing, an Israeli start-up that developed the innovative technology.

The glasses allow users to adjust the sound volume through the frames, an app, or a small remote. You can customize the sound for different situations (such as large crowds or quiet conversations.) Nuance Audio will not include a self-administered hearing test. Instead, the amplification is aurally tuned via an app setup. You'll hear pink noise for about 30 seconds to gauge your general ear physiology. The app will then ask you to speak for 30 seconds to gauge your volume needs.
