HTC to unveil its virtual reality app store worldwide

HTC’s giving its Vive virtual reality headset users another app store to browse through. Called Viveport, it’ll serve as the Taiwanese brand’s own store and it’ll become an alternative to Steam. It was initially launched in China, where Steam is a less established platform, and it served the purpose of giving access to VR content to those who don’t have access to Steam. But now we’ll be seeing a global release of the store. It’s currently in developer beta and will be getting a full rollout in the future. If you’re a developer interested in peddling your wares on Viveport, you can register here.

Viveport is a more general interest store than the more gaming-centric Steam. It’ll be available across multiple platforms including the desktop, smartphones, and an in-VR catalog connected to Vive Home. Steam on its own has been expanding beyond gaming and now offers a sizable non-gaming catalog. But if you want a VR-focused store, the Viveport will be worth checking out when it launches.

Niantic admits bug causes catching difficulty in ‘Pokémon Go’

As Pokémon Go launches in more countries, more issues are also being brought to light with the game. One issue which people thought Niantic purposefully did was making it harder to catch even the lower level Pokémons. And they weren’t talking about this for a while, until recently that is. The developer finally announced on its Twitter account that the difficulties encountered while catching Pokémon, reduced accuracy while throwing, and the lack of bonus XP are part of a bug they’re currently fixing. Niantic didn’t say though when the bug will get fixed but hopefully they do it soon so the play quality doesn’t suffer.

Torrentz.eu shuts down torrent search engine

With the crackdown on torrent sites, we’re not surprised were losing a major portal for them. Poland-based torrent meta-search site Torrentz.eu has closed its doors. If you try to access the site you’ll see text on it in the past tense: "Torrentz was a free, fast and powerful meta-search engine combining results from dozens of search engines.” Try to put a search in the search bar and these words appear: “Torrentz will always love you. Farewell."

Recently KickAssTorrents was shut down by the authorities with its proprietor 30-year-old Ukrainian Artem Vaulin arrested in Poland and charged with criminal copyright infringement and money laundering. He’s been accused of illegally reproducing and distributing over $1 billion worth of pirated media. Torrentz.eu was able to last longer because it didn’t host the torrent links but directed them to places where you can find them. But now that’s gone as well and it’s starting to look like the glory days of torrenting just might be coming to a close.
