Nokia denies any plans of making any smartphones

If you’ve been holding out for a Nokia device, you might be waiting for nothing. Of course, they could return to the business after the agreement with Microsoft ends in 2016. But it would seem they would want to deny the possibility now. In a statement they said: “Nokia reiterates it currently has no plans to manufacture or sell consumer handsets.”

You could say they could change their tune in the future but for now what we do get from them is the N1 Android tablet, HERE mapping service, and they have just purchased Alcatel-Lucent. We probably would see them in the cloud computing and Internet of Things space more than the consumer smartphone market anytime soon.

Fictionary introduces books-specific dictionary for e-books

Big epics and any other book will sometimes have different meanings for words. And Fictionary is here to help you decipher those. If you look up a word using Fictionary, it’ll show you the definition based on its meaning in a book. Example, you try and search for “the one ring” in The Lord of the Rings and it’ll give you a definition based on what that means in the J.R.R. Tolkien classic. It doesn’t support a lot of books at the moment but they will be useful for those that they do support.

Send notes or set alarms from Google desktop search to your phone

Google is extending the cooperation of its desktop and mobile platform further with new features. This time around, you can write notes and set alarms on Chrome browser on desktop and send these to your to your Android smartphone. You simply need to type “note to self” or “send a note” and you’ll get a Google Now kind of card where you have to input the note and select the device you want to send it to. You’ll get a push notification and your phone and you just need to select whether to copy or save the note. For alarms, you can type “set an alarm” or type in something more specific like “set an alarm for 10:00.” There won’t be a notification this time but you’ll see a toast message and an alarm icon on your status bar.

According to Android Police though, it would seem the feature is currently US-only. A workaround is to add &gl=us to your search URL and the cards should be there.
