Report: iPhone 15 to charge faster than ever with USB-C port

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 15 on September 12, and the device will likely feature a USB-C port instead of the Lightning port that has been used since 2012. This rumoured change means the upcoming iPhone series will allow the iPhone 15 to support charging speeds up to 35W (compared to 27W for the iPhone 14 Pro). However, users may need to buy Apple-certified cables and chargers to enjoy the full benefits of fast charging.

The switch to USB-C is also motivated by the EU’s regulation that requires all new phones sold in the bloc to use USB-C for wired charging by December 28, 2024. The iPhone 15 is expected to have improvements such as slimmer bezels, a titanium frame, and a possible price increase for the Pro and Pro Max models.

Apple’s M3 chip: What you need to know

Image: MacRumors

Apple is working on new versions of the M3 chip, which will power the next generation of Macs, Bloomberg reports. The M3 chip will reportedly have more CPU and GPU cores than the M2 chip, which debuted in January. The first Macs with the M3 chip could launch as soon as October, according to the report.

The M3 chip will supposedly come in three variants: the base M3, the M3 Pro, and the M3 Max. The base M3 will have the same configuration as the M2: eight CPU cores and up to 10 GPU cores. The M3 Pro will have 12 CPU cores and 18 GPU cores, while the M3 Max will have 16 CPU cores and 40 GPU cores. These numbers are based on test logs obtained by Bloomberg, and they may change before the final release.

Apple rumoured to take a gradual in-store, rollout strategy for the Vision Pro

Apple's Vision Pro headset will reportedly launch in the US with in-store appointments and a head-scanning app. The mixed reality device will cost USD 3,500 and will be available in select Apple Stores in early 2024. Apple is also expected to expand its international availability later that year, starting with Canada and UK. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the company will adopt a gradual rollout strategy that resembles how it introduced the Apple Watch in 2015.

Customers who want to buy the Vision Pro will need to make an appointment at an Apple Store that has a designated area for demos and fittings. There, they will be able to try the device and get the right accessories, such as a light seal, a head strap, and optional prescription lenses. Apple will also ask them to provide their eyeglass prescriptions and use an iPhone app and a physical machine to scan their heads to ensure a snug fit and a clear view.
