The Apple Beat: Apple's Year in Review

2014 was a momentous one for Apple. The company ramped up its leadership with a number of of key personnel, made its biggest ever acquisition with Beats and showed they were ready to compete in the supersized-smartphone  and wearables space by releasing the iPhone 6 Plus as well as previewing the Apple Watch. 

It was definitely CEO Tim Cook’s landmark year as Apple leader, the Apple Watch was the first new product category he launched and the event and succeeding hype and interest over the Apple Watch and what it can offer was notable. 

Apple also updated most of its product lines. It introduced a game changing 27-inch iMac that offers an industry leading 5K display, the first for a desktop (or commercially available monitor) anywhere.

First wave of IBM MobileFirst for iOS apps released by Apple and IBM

The momentous teaming up of former rivals IBM and Apple to push enterprise-grade solutions on iOS has yielded the first crop of applications. The apps include Passenger+ (above), which allows airline flight crews to offer personalized, in-flight services to passengers such as rebooking flights, accessing baggage information and providing special offers. Other mobile business apps now available through the collaboration between IBM and Apple are designed for customers in banking, retail, insurance, financial services, telecommunications and government.

iTunes releases Best of 2014 for Canada highlighting the most popular downloads and apps

Today iTunes released  iTunes Best Of 2014 for Canada, highlighting the favourite music, movies, tv, apps, and books of Canadians. 

Pharrell Williams topped the songs chart with his hit Happy from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack, while Taylor Swift is #1 on the Albums chart, with her single Shake it Off being the 7th most downloaded song of the year. 
Frozen dominated iTunes downloads in 2014. Among the most downloaded games was Monument Valley and Pixelmator for iOS. Hit jump to read the rest.
