MWC 2026: Honor toys around with adding a robotic camera arm on upcoming device

One of the new devices eventually coming from Chinese tech maker Honor adds a bit more whimsy to your typical smartphone experience. The company gave a sneak peek of its new Honor Robot Phone at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, Spain. The device features a 200-megapixel camera mounted on a robotic arm on the back of the phone.

It features a 4-degree-of-freedom gimbal that allows the camera to tuck away when it isn't in use. Honor claims it made the world's smallest micro-motor to allow the arm to bob, nod and rotate freely. The arm enables the camera to act as a physical 3-axis gimbal, giving the device actual built-in video stabilization instead of stabilization typically replicated by phones via software.

HONOR MagicBook Art 14 has a detachable webcam

HONOR shared a novel approach to laptop design at IFA 2024. The Chinese tech company showed off the MagicBook Art 14. At first glance, it looked like your typical laptop with a display featuring uniform 2mm bezels on its top three sides. It'll make you question where the webcam was placed. HONOR made a detachable camera that you can hide in a recess on the side of the laptop. When you need it, you just attach it magnetically to the top via pogo pins.

The chewing gum-like webcam doesn't work wirelessly. It needs to be connected to the top of that laptop for it to work. But you can either face it towards you or away from the laptop. So, if you require to flip the view while taking conference calls, this won't require you to move the laptop around.

HONOR, a Chinese technology brand, has introduced a new concept phone that doubles as a handbag. The HONOR V Purse is a foldable device with a screen on the outside of the phone and is connected by a hidden hinge, creating a seamless display that can be customized with different designs.

The HONOR V Purse is designed to be stylish and versatile. It has clips that allow users to attach various accessories, such as chains, straps, and handles, to carry the phone like a handbag. It also has an always-on display that can show different patterns and textures, such as feathers, fabric, and charms, that move with the phone.

Honor plans international release for its foldables

Chinese smartphone maker Honor has plans to bring its foldables to markets outside of its home country. Its CEO George Zhao confirmed the news at IFA 2022 in Berlin. We expect its next foldable device to come out in the first quarter of 2023. Zhao hasn't shared specifics about the upcoming device, but the brand's focus for its foldables is to make them thinner, lighter, and more affordable. Europe seems to be the target market, but we're keeping an eye out if it'll make its way to this side of the world.

As The Verge pointed out, the first quarter release will come roughly a year after Honor debuted its first foldable, the Honor Magic V.
