OnePlus, McLaren partnership comes to an end

Or in the words of a McLaren spokesperson, the partnership "came to its scheduled conclusion recently." There won't be any more McLaren-branded OnePlus phones in our immediate future. But it seems the automaker was satisfied with the partnership, calling it a "highly successful collaboration between two iconic and innovative brands." And it looks like they aren't saying there won't be possible collaborations in the future. According to their statement, "OnePlus has been a supportive, valued partner and we wish them well and hope to see them in the future."

The two companies started collaborating in 2018, and we've seen McLaren Edition models of the OnePlus 7T Pro and OnePlus 6T. And there was the OnePlus Concept One, which never got an official release beyond the prototype.

OnePlus phones will get always-on displays

OnePlus will be bringing a much-requested feature to its phones. The phone maker announced that the always-on display feature is on its roadmap. This particular feature has been the most popular request on OnePlus' Ideas portal, which is where users can suggest new features and then those that get implemented will get rewards from the company. Expect it to arrive in a future build of OxygenOS. But, of course, OnePlus still has to find a way to optimize this feature to make sure always-on doesn't drain the battery heavily.

Looks like OnePlus is testing new forced dark mode

Not all apps support dark mode, but OnePlus could allow its users to force the feature on more apps. XDA Developers discovered code within the Settings app of the latest OxygenOS Open Betta 11 version for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro that hints at forced dark mode coming to a future update. It is unclear though what apps might support the dark mode or when it might arrive.

The idea behind this option is said to be similar to DarQ, which lets you enable Android 10's built-in forced dark mode on a per-app basis. So, you can decide to retain the light theme for apps that don't look well to enforced dark themes, while keeping it for others,
