Facebook starts rollout of Nearby Friends feature for iOS and Android

If you want to know where your friends are at any given time, then Facebook is giving you an opportunity to find that out with a new feature they're rolling out for their iOS and Android apps. Nearby Friends lets you see what city or neighbourhood your friends are in, how long they have been there, and how many miles away from you they are.

Google includes ‘Insert Photo’ button to mobile version of Gmail

Google wants to help make it easy for you to add photos while using Gmail on your phone with a new “Insert Photo” button. Gmail product manager Thijs van As said in a blog post this is meant to ease the sharing process a bit for mobile users. You can even resize images in Gmail. “When you click the button, you’ll instantly access all the photos that are backed up from your mobile devices starting with the most recent.”

However, it also forces users to use Auto Backup through Google+. This feature is meant to back up your photos and videos directly on the social network.

Google Glass update XE16 starts roll out, brings KitKat to the specs

Google is bringing KitKat to Glass in the form of a new update. Android Community reports XE16 update is being rolled out at the moment. The tech site says the first update will be XE 12.1 to prepare you for that update. It will need Glass to be plugged in for around 20 minutes. It comes with a new boot animation and groups multiple photos into a collage layout in a single card to make scanning easier. Voice commands are also re-sorted in order of how often they are used and Video Calls have been take out of the command list. Bluetooth 4.0 LE is also now supported and volume is set at 100% after the update. The site also reports some app crashes and sluggishness though.

iPad dashboard Morning gets iPhone version

If you’ve been needing a new dashboard app for your iPhone, Morning is making its way from the iPad into the smaller iOS device. This dashboard app works much like Google Now. It shows you the weather, your to-do list, RSS feed, and the like on one screen. It is a customizable wake-up screen for your phone that provides you with a sneak peek of what your day is going to be like. The app costs US$3 in the iTunes App Store.
