Reasons why you won’t see an ECG monitor on a Fitbit yet

Fitbit recently just announced its new line of devices, but before you ask where the ECG monitor is, the company’s CEO James Park has an explanation for the exemption. He says they are working on a version of it for its trackers. But don’t expect it to come out soon. Park gave two reasons. Firstly, with FDA approval in the US, it takes time to get that product out. So, he can’t give a specific timeline. Secondly, he wants them to develop the technology in a way that’s different from Apple’s take. How they’d be able to do this is something we can’t say just yet.

"I think for us it's making sure that it’s really clinically relevant. It’s not just about alerting people, but making sure that there’s a good next step," Park told Wareable."I’m a big fan of these technologies and early detection coming out, but if you read some of the criticisms it’s about the number of false positives, the unnecessary raising of people’s anxieties. And if you look at some of the use cases, you’re being told if you have AFib today this is not for you, or if you’re under 65 don’t really use it. For us our strategy it’s not been about getting the latest features out there first, so when you see us launch FDA-regulated features like [sleep] apnea or AFib, we’ll be taking a different approach."

Tom Holland will reportedly star in Russo Brothers’ next film post-‘Avengers: Endgame’

Looks like Tom Holland and the Russo Brothers (Joe and Anthony Russo) will be collaborating beyond the walls of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A new report from Variety says that Holland is in talks to work with the Russos on Cherry, an adaptation of Nico Walker’s semi-autobiographical novel of the same name. It tells the tale of an Iraq War veteran who comes home and struggles with PTSD and opioid addiction. To fund the said addiction, he starts robbing banks. While the narrator and protagonist of the story are unnamed, it’s heavily based on Walker’s own experiences. The film is expected to hit theatres in 2020.

This will be the first post-MCU film for the brothers. They acquired the rights to Cherry for US$1 million through their AGBO studio. They will direct it from a script written by Jessica Goldberg and produce alongside AGBO’s Mike Larocca. Filming is expected to start this summer in time for next year’s release.

Google Pixel 2 spotted running on Android Q

A Geekbench listing hints at the possibility that we’re getting the Developer Preview of Android Q pretty soon. A Google Pixel 2 handset was spotted running the upcoming Android version. While it’s listed as an “unknown device,” the codename “walleye” indicates that it’s a Google Pixel 2 device. With Google I/O just around the corner (May 7th), it makes sense that testing is well underway. Google launches the newest version of Android at the said conference. Not much is known about Android Q at the moment, except that we’re getting a system-wide dark mode soon as well as desktop mode.

Google Assistant for Android TV adds four new languages

While a bit behind what it can do on mobile, the latest update for Google Assistant for Android TV will make it a bit more useful for users that don’t speak English. That is if you speak these four languages. Assistant adds support for German, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese (Brazilian). This adds on to the four other languages that it supported in the past (English, French, Japanese, and Korean). Unfortunately for Android TV users, you are at the mercy of your TV manufacturer to see if they’ve updated your firmware. But you could check to see if it’s made it your way.
