TikTok is boosting its direct messaging capabilities by adding support for voice messages and photos. According to The Verge, you can send up to nine photos at a time or a voice memo up to a minute long. Direct messages on the platform still support video messages, which are also up to a minute long.

We finally get a launch date for Apple's newest iPhones. And the company claims they will be "awe dropping." The iPhone 17 event will take place on September 9 at the Steve Jobs Theatre in Apple Park at 1 PM ET / 10 AM PT.
Aside from the standard iPhone lineup, media reports have claimed that Apple will unveil a new 6.6-inch iPhone 17 Air, its slim and light model that's a step away from the company introducing foldable devices into its roster.

Bloomberg, citing two people familiar with the matter, claims the Alphabet-owned site has inquired about purchasing the rights to air the Academy Awards. Walt Disney's ABC currently holds the air rights for the awards show through at least 2028, but Bloomberg reports that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences is in talks.
YouTube might be a behemoth in the video streaming space, but it still faces tough competition. There isn't just Disney or ABC, there's Comcast's NBCUniversal, Netflix, Amazon, and even Paramount's CBS. But YouTube hasn't shied away from live events. They have acquired the rights for NFL Sunday Ticket and are bidding on other live sports events. So, it might not win the rights for the Oscars outright, but it may get a chance to acquire them.

Live translation might be coming sooner than we think for the Apple AirPods. Images found in iOS 26 beta 6 suggest the feature is soon launching on Apple's wireless earbuds. As seen above, one of the photos shows the picture of AirPods with Hello said in different languages alongside a suggestion to double-press to activate the feature. The file itself was also named Translate, with MacRumors confirming the photo was seen in the files for the Translate app in the latest beta.
iOS 26 is going to bring Live Translation to the Phone and Messages apps and FaceTime, so it doesn't feel like too much of a stretch to see it come to AirPods for in-person translations.
